Important Dates

The Roman Science Support Center (SSC) at IPAC manages the Roman proposal process, including issuing calls for proposals, organizing the panel reviews, and administering Roman grants. This page provides the key dates for Roman proposal activities.






Cycle 1 Call for Proposals

Roman proposal preparation workshop: AAS247 in Jan 2026

There will be a session at AAS247 in Phoenix, AZ dedicated to helping the community prepare for the Roman Cycle 1 Call for Proposal. The Roman Telescope Proposal System (RTPS), the Astronomer's Proposal Tool (APT), and other relevant tools will be introduced, and the details of the Call will be discussed. More virtual or in-person workshop(s) may be hosted in the weeks following the AAS. Please check back for details.

Cycle 1 Call for Proposals released: Fall 2025

The Cycle 1 Call for Proposal release date will be clarified when the US government reopens. The link to the Call will be posted here - stay tuned. 

Cycle 1 proposal deadline: Spring 2026

All proposals have to be submitted to the SSC via RTPS. The link to RTPS will be available when the Call for Proposal is released.

Cycle 1 panel review meeting: ~Apr - May 2026

The panel review will take place in in the Spring of 2026, via a combination of virtual panels and in-person Time Allocation Committee (TAC) discussions. 

Cycle 1 selection notifications: June 2026

The Cycle 1 proposal selection is expected to be announced in June 2026, following the recommendation of the Project Science Office (PSO) Selection Official.

Cycle 1 observations commence: January 2027

Cycle 1 observations are expected to commence in January 2027, assuming a September 2026 launch and a successful 3-month commissioning period.
